Ceramic Coating Maintenance: How to Keep Your Protection Perfect

A ceramic coating lasts longest when you maintain it correctly. Follow these simple do’s and don’ts to protect your investment for years.
Ceramic coating maintenance is simple, but doing it right is what gets you the full lifespan of your coating. The goal is to keep the surface clean and free of bonded contaminants without using anything that degrades the coating.
The do’s
- Wash every two to three weeks with a pH-neutral car shampoo
- Use the two-bucket method (one wash, one rinse) with a clean microfiber mitt
- Dry with a clean, plush microfiber towel or a filtered blower
- Apply a ceramic maintenance spray ("topper") periodically to refresh water beading
The don’ts
- Avoid automatic car washes with spinning brushes — they inflict swirl marks
- Do not use harsh, high-pH degreasers or household detergents on the coating
- Do not let bird droppings, sap, or love bugs sit — remove them promptly
- Do not wash in direct sun on hot paint, which causes spotting
When to schedule a maintenance visit
Even a well-maintained coating benefits from a periodic professional decontamination and inspection — our 9-year package includes annual inspections for exactly this reason. If your water is no longer beading the way it used to, it is usually time for a maintenance treatment rather than a full re-coat.
